Delegation from Ukmergė District Municipality Visited Tarnowo Podgórne
At the invitation of Mr. Tadeusz Czajka, Mayor of Tarnowo Podgórne – a partner city of Ukmergė District Municipality in the Republic of Poland – a delegation from Ukmergė visited Tarnowo Podgórne on June 6–8, during the Municipality Days – the City Festival.
The delegation to Poland included Vitalijus Martikonis – Director of Ukmergė Sports Center, Rimvydas Olšauskas – Director of UAB “Ukmergės autobusų parkas”, and Klavdija Stepanova – Director of Ukmergė Art School. The delegation traveled using a municipal administration vehicle, a "Mercedes-Benz Vito Tourer", driven by Julius Eimontas.
In addition to the Ukmergė representatives, the festival also welcomed delegations from seven other municipalities: Šalčininkai (Lithuania), Līvāni (Latvia), Kamianets-Podilskyi (Ukraine), and Polish towns Bardo, Czorsztyn, Szemud, and Kłoczew.
On the first day, all guest delegations were invited to a ceremonial dinner, which included welcome speeches and a symbolic gift exchange.
The second day of the visit focused on strengthening international ties. The delegation representatives took part in a guided tour of Tarnowo Podgórne, engaged with local communities, and later participated in the traditional parade and festive events.
During the visit, the delegation also toured one of the schools in Tarnowo Podgórne, where they visited a modern sports facility. At the time, regional karate competitions were taking place. The hosts shared their experience, highlighting that around 50% of the municipal budget is allocated to education, with ongoing investments in new educational, recreational, and cultural infrastructure. A new school is currently under construction in the city.
The delegation also visited a newly built mineral water inhalation center, designed for public health prevention. The center was established in response to the effects of the pandemic – as many residents had suffered from respiratory, pulmonary, and bronchial illnesses – making such wellness initiatives especially relevant.
